Shakespeare once said that

" Be not afraid of greatness: some are born great, some achieve greatness and some have greatness thrust upon them"

In my opinion, I think that leaders are born. To lead, one have to have few born in traits..

PATIENCE- Good leader should have a great level of patience , to be able to listen to their subordinates even if they are as slow as a snail. And i think that this is a born trait.

FAIRNESS- This is the only way how a superior or leader is measured by people. If a leader is not fair, the subordinates will fight, have disrespect towards the leader and indirectly will produce an unwanted outcome.

MODESTY- By being modest and humble, a leader can minimise the potential of jealousy within the team who are envious about the team leadership.

APPRECIATION- A good leader should appreciate every little pieces achieved bt his or her team. When a leader appreciates , it will motivate the person to strive even better. The team must be able to feel good about their talents and skills.

SENSE OF HUMOUR- This is inborn trait every leader should have to avoid awful lot of time in meeting or speaking in public. By having this quality in a leader, a leader can convey the message effectively.

CONFIDENCE- If a leader shows hesitation or self-doubt, it will affect the rest of team because team follows the leader. Team will respect and listen to a leader who is confident not who hesitates.

PASSION- People will admire and respect leader who takes pride when working, tries hard but still enjoys doing the work. A leader should have passion to have continous motivation.

TRUSTWORTHINESS- Ethics and trust are the leadership traits that have the highest importance. Nobody will obey or follow someone they distrust. The subordinates should have a deep trust on their leader. Noone will able to associate with an untrustworthy leader. A leader should not let down expectations. In simpler words, in order for trust to be earned, worth and responsibilty should be proven.

Even a few traits above can be learned, a few cannot be. This is why i think great leaders are born and not made.

I'm sure many of you had thought about this matter in your heads. Because that's what i thought when i saw the picture above. Its devastating to think that all this time we had believed a fake story.

'Why do YOU think that the moon landing was a fake?'. You may ask me this question. But believe that i have reasons that make me feel that the moon landing obviously fake.

There are more than tonnes of reasons but here is a few reasons why i think that we never went to the moon at all...maybe..

#1# PITCH BLACK SKY FROM THE MOON??

How come there are no stars seen from the moon? It should be studded with stars because the moon do not even have atmosphere to impede the vision as earth has.

#2# HOW COME THE EXTREMELY HOT AND POWERFUL BLAST OF ROCKET ENGINE FAILED TO MAKE A MARK ON THE GROUND?

The LM engine is very powerful, how come the there is no crater below the spacecraft? think!!!

#3# WHY IS THE USA FLAG FLUTTERING?

Since there is no air in the moon then how can the flag wave? The moon is airless. then how can this be possible?

#4# HOW CAN IMAGES OF APOLLO ASCENDING TAKEN IF THERE IS NO ONE TO MAN THE CAMERA?

#5# HOW COME THE SHADOWS IN THE PICTURES IS NOT PARALLEL?

There are many more to be asked and NASA would have explanation for each and every question subjected to them. No one can answer that did we go or not the moon , the discussion will be going on forever.. This is a unresolved mystery of the universe. We can only assume and make believe but no one knows the truth for sure ..

You can come up with plenty of excuses for not doing something. Its easy to put off doing an unpleasant task.
For example,
"I can't study now because i have football practice at night." or
"I can't attend the discussion because I have to pay the bills." or
" I can't do the dishes now because I have to get a haircut."

At some time or other, everyone procrastinates but why?

How do you conquer this problem? The first step in conquering this problem is to recognize the actual reasons for procrastinating:
  • you're not sure you can do it
  • you're afraid it will involve too much time and effort
  • you're uneasy in new situation
  • you don't want to be disturbed
  • its' hard for you to get started

Knowing why you're procrastinating will help you to overcome the tendency to put things off and you'll find it easier to get moving.

HOW TO TRICK AND BEAT PROCRASTINATION?

We all to rewarded for a job done and if we know there 's going to be a reward at the end, we will be more motivated at the start. Trick yourself into working now by promising yourself a treat later such as having a snack( healthy), spend time with your pet or take a little walk.
This way you can improve yourself in beating procrastination.

USE PROCRASTINATION TO GET SOMETHING DONE!!

Distract yourself from one job by another. This works especially well if both task are the kind that makes you procrastinate, like studying history or biology and cleaning out the closet. Watch the clock , don't spend more than 20 minutes on one job. You can set the time in the timer to avoid spending too much time in a job.

I do my work at the same time each day - the last minute.
Putting off an easy thing makes it hard. Putting off a hard thing makes it impossible.
A year from now you may wish you had started today.
Procrastination is the thief of time.

A tremendous amount of research has been conducted on birth order for the past 100 years. Everyone is born into a family and everyone tend to participate in this birth order traits. so all are affected, one way or another, by birth order based character...

So, is it true that we're all born with traits or character that matches our birth order, or is it simply a made-up condition????

Of course birth order do not guarantee that the eldest child will have all the traits typically associated with the eldest child but birth order tends to emphasize the traits that the child already possess....

so, let us see....

First Middle Last Only
Natural Leader Flexible Risk-taker Close to parents
High Achiever Easy-going Outgoing Self-control
Organized Social Creative Leader
On-time Peacemakers Self-centered Mature
Know-it-all Independent Financially irresponsible Dependable
Bossy Secretive Competitive Demanding
Responsible May feel life is unfair Bored easily Unforgiving
Adult-pleaser Strong negotiator Likes to be pampered Private
Obeys the rules Generous Sense of humor Sensitive

According to my own experience with my siblings, i think that some characters is similar and some are not..

My brother the eldest of all, became responsible when he reach his 20s... he is also an adult pleaser .. haha and that does irritate me..sometimes...and he obeys rules, not all but mostly..also a natural leader and on-time always..so kinda most of the traits can be seen..but some are not though..

In the middle , its me and my sis. So lets just compare the traits with ME.. I am flexible and easy-going..i can adjust most of the time..and its so true i am the peacemaker of the family..i am also very generous ..quite secretive too..i think all the traits do match me.

Now,my little sis..all the traits match my younger sister traits perfectly. hehe.. She is very creative, she always makes something new out of the waste paper and boxes. She is also financially irresponsible. she also get bored easily.. She also has a great sense of humor..

What i would like to conclude that birth traits depends on the order and also mainly on the situation the child is brought up..

KP is when a student get a pointer lower than 2.00 in cgpa. KP2 is when a student get a pointer lower than 2.00 in cgpa twice; a step away from being banished from UniKL. Is it necessary for us to gives monetary incentives for those who are already KP2 students? What are the purpose? What are the effects of the incentives towards them? Me personally are rejecting the idea of monetary incentive. There are few points; first, is it the incentive will gives a positive impacts towards the student grade? Second, monetary incentives will make the student's focus and target reflect towards the money, not the knowledge. Third, instead of giving away the money, why not spend it in other form of action that will helps the student improve their grades?

First point; the effects of the incentives towards KP2 students. This is the biggest question. What are the impact? Is it just giving away some money to them, their grades will improve? How can it be? The matter of grades is the matter of study. How they study. Why they fail. Is it because not enough exercise or is it just because the attitude of the student themselves? There are so many factors that contribute in this problem. It is not about the money. But, it is about how their attitude towards their own study. Maybe the incentives will give them some moral support as well as monetary support, but the impact are really small. They are KP2 student, just a step away from the main gate of the campus. So, monetary incentives are not helping them.

Second point; student's focus will be reflect or bias towards the money, not the study or knowledge. Is it a good thing to train a student to always think about the money instead of train them to always think how to improve grades without any "bribes"? Money can always change a man's mind. There is no doubt that the incentives will gives them some moral support. But, it is not an ethical way to be done. Yes, everything needs money, but money is not everything.

Third point; instead of giving away the money, why not spend it in other form of action that will helps the student improve their grades? We can use the money to help them in other form. Example, make extra tutorial or special class for them so they can learn more. The money are used to pay the tutors and the lecturers for extra time. It is just a perfect actions to help them improve their grades. Therefore, they will be no longer  KP2 students.

As a conclusion, monetary incentives is not a suitable nor proper way to help KP2 students to improve their grades. We have to find a way to change their attitude also to counter their problem in class. Maybe it is because the lecturers, or maybe the environment itself makes them feel uncomfortable. There are so many factors, and money are not the answer.

Last Tuesday (8 February), there was a industrial talk at DK2. The talk is about instrumentation of offshore oil and gas field. It is delivered by Mr. Wan Hassan Wan Mamat, GM from Petronas Carigali Sdn. Bhd. It is such a good chance for us as a chemical engineering student to take part in this talk. Mr. Wan Hassan was a very knowledgeable person in oil and gas field. He gave a speech about Petronas as well as the details of the instrumentation that take place on the offshore platform.

First half of the speech  was about Petronas. He started at Petronas around 1980's, when the company was only hired about 1000 employees. Now, Petronas have about 40000 employees around the world. But then, they still need more workers, especially in technical department. He also explain about the business that Petronas involved. It is not only in Malaysia, but also around the globe. Petronas have so many join ventures with other international oil company in many countries such as Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and so on.

The second half of the speech are more towards the details and technical aspect of the instrumentation on the offshore platform. In Malaysia, oil and gas are been discovered at the sea. Majority of our oil and gas are at offshore of East Peninsular and also in Sabah and Sarawak. Therefore, the offshore platform was the only way for Petronas to "harvest" the oil and gas. The speech was so detail. It covers from the planning, management, technical aspect, safety aspect, weather and also commercial aspect. It is so complicated. It takes not only month but years to make a plan to make an offshore platform. It is not only chemical engineering that involved in the plan, but also other engineering discipline such as electrical, civil, piping, mechanical and also structural.

Mr. Wan Hassan always reminds us that if we want to work at oil and gas industry, team work is the most critical aspect that needed. He also says that communication skill are very essential when we deal with others, especially from other country. But then, he urged that technical skill is the most important thing. It is okay if our English is not perfect. But the important is how to make sure others understand what are we try to say. He himself are not very fluent in English. He admit that he is not fluent at all when he first come to Petronas. But, experience is the best teacher. He always try to speak in English to improve his fluency.

So, now we know which is more important. Communication skill or technical skill? We are engineers. We do it, not talk about it. We are realist, not a dreamiest. =)
