WHAT IS MARIANAS TRENCH?

The Marianas Trench is the deepest known submarine trench, and the deepest location in the Earth's crust itself. The maximum depth of Mariana Trench is 36,200 feet or 11,034 meters, which is found at the Challenger Deep. It was created by ocean-to-ocean subduction, a phenomena in which a plate topped by oceanic crust is subducted beneath another plate topped by oceanic crust. Its mean width only measures 43 miles or 69 kilometers, but its length is 1,580 miles or 2,550 kilometers. Challenger Deep in the Marianas Trench is the deepest point in Earth's oceans. The bottom there is 10,924 meters or 35,840 feet below sea level. If Mount Everest, the highest mountain on Earth, were placed at this location it would be covered by over one mile of water as shown in the picture above. Interesting !!!

DID ANYONE EVER ENTERED THE TRENCH?

The only people to have ever explored this trench were Jacques Piccard and Don Walsh. At the bottom they were seven miles down and all around them eight tons of pressure. They observed fish, shrimp and other creatures living on the bottom of the sea floor. That is how they got a chance to take the pictures of the mystical creatures..
